Stream Of Consciousness

Date: Summer 2003
Commissioning body: Chelsea College of Art (MA)

About the project:
Malisa Sledmere and Trudi Lloyd Williams met at Chelsea College of Art whilst studying for an MA in Design for the Environment. Deciding to work collaboratively for their final project the result was a series of five planted rafts that floated in the stream of a winterbourne river, the River Lavant.

Each raft was designed to illustrate in its own unique way the hydrodynamic movement of the water, one bobbed, one undulated, one snaked, one filtered and one twisted. Jointly they drew the attention of the viewer towards this beautiful but unpredictable stretch of water, and invited them to follow the artists on a journey of thought about water being one of our most precious and undervalued resources.

Materials:
Wire, Wire mesh, polystyrene, horticultural fabric, flint, willow, bamboo, various barks and marginal plants
