About the project:
Following extensive refurbishment of New Milton town Centre; a public Art commission to enhance the newly created public space; Mallard Court was sought. As the commissioned artist, Trudi worked with four local schools and Forest Arts Centre. During the schools’ art week, workshops on the theme of pattern were held, culminating in an exhibition of their work at Forest Arts. The idea of ‘Frond’ taken from native indigenous colonies of rare fern in the nearby New Forest was the inspiration of the Paisley motif. Trudi worked these into two murals and four paisley motifs, one representing each school. The colours were taken from the adjacent landscaping and planting. The curvaceous shapes were made using a stainless steel frame and mosaic tesserae.
The materials and techniques were developed to ensure minimum weight, minimal risk of vandalism and with the possibility of being moved in case of development.
