Drift

Location: Fairweather’s Garden Centre, Beaulieu, New Forest
Date: September 2007
Commissioning body: Fairweather’s, Beaulieu, New Forest

About the project:
Fairweather’s commissioned Trudi to create the installation’ Drift’. It embraces their philosophy that plants should be selected to suit & enhance their local environment. The dry, sunny design includes grasses and hard landscaping reminiscent of a coastal drift.
The sculptures are made with recycled plant labels and plant pots from Fairweather’s nursery and set into a blue tinted resin, which is a waste product from the local boat builder John Claridge.
The structures are segmented; the decorative outer skin is attached to a steel framework that supports the plant container and growing medium and is fixed into the ground.
Local businesses and artisans were used to construct and install the work, building and developing local networks, reducing waste and energy. Leading to a cross fertilisation of ideas and shared skills and resources.
